CCANW was established as a legal entity in January 2001. It was set up to:
- Achieve the unique ambitions of the project with its artistic and educational programme, as developed during the earlier studies.
- Continue, with other partners, to work closely with established and emerging artists on pilot projects, organising exhibitions, talks and symposia to further inform its development and raise the project's profile internationally.
- Make grant applications and raise partnership funding to create a building for the Centre, commission artists and equip the Centre.
- Secure revenue and project funding to establish the Centre and appoint staff to realise its vision and ensure the widest public involvement.
The Centre is run by Trustees with professional staff supported by a specialist advisory board.
